This review is about the Steve Nash gym at Port Coquitlam-Equipment was better maintained when it was Fitness World, untightened free weights, staff don't clean or enforce any members to clean equipment, often there is no cleaner in the bottles and paper towels have run out. Even the main front door is filthy.
Staff sit on their phones at desks, don't do rounds or pick up garbage on the floors, don't check or test the machines to see what might be in need of repair, they play horrible music that does not lend itself to relaxing or even being energized...
Bathrooms need more ventalation too.
-Suddenly equipment including the circuit has been removed, members were not canvassed considering we joined thinking we would have this equipment!
Spin classes are so loud and out in the open that the music penetrates both my earbuds and any music I'm wanting to hear privately - please stop yelling instructors! Every person in the gym is not there to hear your class!
I was much happier when it was just "Fitness World"
The money being spent on signs, paint and flooring would be better spent bonusing staff members who might have incentives then to do more than watch the clock for their shift.
Suggestion: Offer late night members a walk to their cars or at least stand at the doors to make sure they are safe at their cars...

Just another Fitness World in disguise...

Great space, changerooms and pro-shop are gorgeous, equipment is good, but WAY overpriced, especially if you're only looking for weights and cardio.

I recieved a free one month pass in the mail for the Steve Nash gym, I was pretty stoked, until I showed up. The front desk staff are more concerned with talking amongst themselves, and there is no attempt to build a repore. The lady who showed me around the gym seemed like she had much better things to do, she really didn't sell me on the facility. The equipment is great! But there are never open lockers in the ladies changing room from 4:30-6:30pm you have to spend 20 mins going from locker to locker hoping one is working! The ammenities and the towel service is great. The classes all start too early, I get off work at 5:30 and then I have to walk to the gym, and all the classes are over by then. They need more classes to optimize their classroom space. The classes are always full so more classes would be great. The teachers are mostly nice, but watch out for a few. They are all very educated but sometimes their music selection is crazy. When you do find a class, and leave work early to make it there, they have changed the schedual or the teacher. Its frustrating when you think you are in a pilates class but it turns out to be power yoga.
Steve Nash's gym has a reputaion that it lives up to, all the ladies are in Lululemon, and wearing make-up. The guys pretty much stay in the free weight section and there are some intimidating men there. It seems like a very Vancouver place to be seen... but heaven forbid any one actually talks to each other.
The Jugo juice is a nice touch, and so is the pro shop selling nike and Lulu gear for 10% off, I would be buying things there all the time if they cycled their stock at all.
Needless to say I won't be joining this gym when my one month trail is over. It doesn't have a club feel and there are too many negatives to contend with.
